Levels Descriptors

BEGINNERS Portuguese – student:

•  has little or no knowledge of Portuguese. .

•  has no real idea about the grammatical rules.

•  may have a very limited vocabulary (basic words and expressions)

 

Lower INTERMEDIATE Portuguese - student:

•  can use some Portuguese with some confidence.

•  can speak in simple sentences.

•  can ask and answer simple questions.

•  knows enough Portuguese to get by in expected situations.

•  has basic understanding of some grammatical rules but doesn't always apply them.

 

INTERMEDIATE Portuguese – student:

•  can ask and answer to a wide range of simple questions.

•  can use Portuguese in most common situations.

•  has a reasonable idea of how verbs are used.

•  can exchange written information on certain topics.

•  can an hold conversations on many topics.

 

Upper INTERMEDIATE Portuguese -

•  speaks with a reasonable degree of accuracy

•  uses Portuguese efficiently and appropriately in most situations.

•  has good understanding of grammatical structures.

•  Can read and exchange written information on familiar topics.

•  Can give opinions on familiar and unfamiliar topics.

 

ADVANCED Portuguese – student:

•  has a good understanding and knowledge of Portuguese

•  uses complex and varied vocabulary

•  can use Portuguese in work or leisure related tasks.

•  Can confidently write letters and documentation to native speakers.
